Ever wondered why dogs circle in their beds before sleeping? Your dog performs Goldilocks and the Three Bears, circling until the bed is just right. Here’s why….
Even though most dogs enjoy the indoor pampered life, with plenty of comfy napping spots in the house, they still retain the nesting instinct that has prevailed in dogs for generations. Circling and pawing the bed are the same actions that your dog’s ancestors made when they circled and pawed at twigs and leaves to create just the right bowl shape to fit their bodies for a nap.
Circling also releases your dog’s scent. It is the aromatic alert to other dogs that this bed belongs to her, and her alone.
